COVID-19 Update 1.2.22
/in COVID-19 VIRUS NEWSWe would like to provide you with an update regarding Covid cases, and also with new information and new interventions that have been put in place to keep our Residents, Patients, Staff and Families/Visitors as safe as possible during this Covid surge in our Community, our Nation and our World.
Our Clinical Staff were able to identify six new Covid cases today. We’ve placed a lot of strategic effort at keeping this virus contained as much as possible through a tactic called cohorting; which helps our Clinicians provide a safer environment and specialized care. Cohorting helps us keep Patients with the same disease together in the same area to limit exposure. This allow us to centralize resources, like personal protective equipment, and help ensure the best possible care outcomes for not only our Patients with Covid, but every other patient being cared for at Shawnee PARC. Our goal is to provide the necessary services and processes that result in our Residents and Patients returning to their highest level of function and optimal state of health.
To help meet this end, Maple 2 has been designated as a Hybrid Covid Unit which is currently caring for Patients who are Covid Positive as room has met capacity in the Covid Unit. Given the fact that the largest number of Covid positive Patients live in Maple 2, it made sense to designate this are as a second site to care for our Residents.
COVID-19 Update 1.1.22
/in COVID-19 VIRUS NEWSUnfortunately, Staff Members whose lab results were pending, four results returned positive for Covid; and thankfully one was negative. Staff Members are currently quarantining and will be allowed to return after the quarantine period is over and have been symptom free for 72 hours. Upon PCR tests returning positive on the one Resident who tested positive on Maple 2, the facility took additional steps to test all Residents and Patients. We were able to identify four more Residents yesterday who tested positive. Though challenging, a lot of efforts from so many Team Members came together to make nine room changes with all the precautions necessary for safe transitions and expand the Covid Unit to be able to admit all Covid positive Residents into the Unit. These interventions and expansion successfully took place yesterday. We want to thank everyone directly and indirectly involved in making this happen. These interventions have helped minimize the risk of a wide-spread problem as they have helped contain the virus as much as possible. We understand the science of how the virus spreads, and how it takes some time for the virus to begin to take form, and symptoms to begin to show. Therefore, we will re-test all non-infected Residents and Patients once again on Tuesday. If all testes return negative, we will notify the Department of Health to see if it would like to see another round of testing after that, or if we can consider this event resolved; we will keep you posted.
Until then, we are encouraging all Residents and Patients to stay in their rooms and to wear a face covering when a Staff Member enters the room to provide them with care.
COVID-19 Update 12.31.21
/in COVID-19 VIRUS NEWSWe would like to inform you that, with cases on the rise, we also have two Staff Members who have tested positive for Covid, and four other Staff Members whom we are currently waiting for results. One of our Residents from Maple 2 tested positive by exposure from a family member and has been transferred to the Covid Unit. The family member was responsible enough to let us know right away; and that’s truly the expectation. We are grateful for transparency in these matters. One of our Residents in Willow 1 has also tested positive and will transition to the Covid Unit as well. We have collaborated with the JOCO Department of Health on these cases for appropriate interventions. Staff Members are currently quarantining and will be allowed to return after the quarantine period is over and have been symptom free for 72 hours. Any Staff Members and Residents who had a potential exposure in this instance have started to test and will complete testing as appropriate. All Staff Members will be required to utilize reusable eye protection and KN95 or higher. There will be no need to quarantine any part of the building at this time so long as we don’t have any further Resident/Patient positive cases and all families and visitors wear their mask at all times.
With that being said, we also want to make you aware that our Covid Unit has been successfully expanded to care for up to 12 Patients at any given time.
