Re: COVID-19 Updates

Dear Residents, Family and Friends;

We are happy to report that Shawnee PARC has not had a single confirmed Covid-19 case by any of our Residents or Patients since the beginning of this pandemic.

Our Residents are still encouraged to stay in their rooms as much as possible. However, our Activities Department is still doing creative things that bring love and life to our Residents and Patients each and every day. One of the highlights of the week was our Potato Bake Party last Thursday. Our Residents and Staff were overjoyed to be able to have a made-to-order baked potatoes along with music and balloons to make it festive.

We are still encouraging all our Family Members and Friends to schedule virtual meetings with Winnie Banda, Activities Director. We understand Families want to bring food to your loved ones from either home or from takeout. Given the current environment, we do ask that food be brought for your loved one only as the act of sharing food between Residents and Patients can have negative outcomes.

Something to keep in mind for Families with loved ones on the first floor is that there is landscape between sidewalks and Resident windows. Landscape is uneven and not meant to be walked on safely; please be careful when approaching Resident windows and ensure that masks are being worn at all times. Also, please encourage your loved one to be mindful of how long their window is open as HVAC units have been freezing up and have either needed replacement or fixing as they do freeze up when windows are left open for extended periods of time.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to the day when we’ll be able to welcome Families and Visitors. We are uncertain of when that will be, but we will certainly make you aware when plans begin to be considered for “re-opening” by the Kansas Department of Health, the Johnson County Health Department, CMS and CDC.

At your service,

The Leadership Team at Shawnee PARC
